Infrastructure Management Centre (IMC) Engineer – Johannesburg, South Africa

Job Objective

The Infrastructure Management Centre Engineer will effectively monitor our OADC data center systems remotely. He / she will ensure high-quality performance levels, promptly resolve incidents and problems and administer several Data Centre systems.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • Take proactive measures to monitor OADC data centres and related systems remotely, including incident resolution, problem-solving and performance improvement.
  • Monitor data centre automation systems such as the Building Management System (BMS) and Fire Alarm Monitoring System (FAMS), as well as other automation monitoring systems.
  • Monitor global security centre operations, including access control and video monitoring.
  • Utilise data centre automation systems to identify and resolve facility and environmental issues by applying fault isolation techniques and diagnostic procedures.
  • Collaborate with on-site shift technical teams to conduct system inspections, emergency repairs and emergency management, aiming for 100% facility uptime.
  • Ensure smooth handover and takeover of daily duties by providing clear instructions for the next shift IMC Engineer.
  • Prepare daily 24×7 shift handover reports and work order summaries.
  • Assist with incident investigations and resolutions by reviewing logs obtained from automation systems servers.
  • Prepare and provide incident reports to Data Centre Management.
  • Escalate and report system abnormalities promptly through automation system alarms or notifications from customers or technicians.
  • Coordinate tasks with on-site technical staff to ensure timely and quality completion.
  • Assist with implementing data centre standards, procedures and health and safety protocols.
  • Escalate incidents according to the incident management plan and escalation matrix.
  • Engage in the planning of works through Change Management processes.
  • Actively contribute to IMC Operations’ documentation and process automation to align with client SLAs.
 Minimum Qualifications
  • Engineering Certificate N/T/S stream (preferably Mechanical or Electrical) with a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in a Data Centre environment or Data centre command Center/NOC with similar duties.
  • Technical knowledge and hands-on experience in critical data centre systems such as HVAC, standby emergency power, uninterruptible power supplies, and associated infrastructure.
  • Experience in operations and administration of Building Management Systems.
  • CDCP or any other Data Center certification will be an advantage.
Experience & Skills
  • Ability to develop and document operational processes.
  • Proficient knowledge of data centre systems.
  • Proficient communication skills in English, both written and verbal, including the ability to write incident notification reports.
  • Ability to collaborate with multiple vendors and stakeholders and effectively articulate and present key information.
  • Working knowledge of at least one trouble ticket system.
  • Detailed practical knowledge of Service Management methodologies, tools and techniques, including ITIL and ISO.
