xneelo successfully moves its Cape Town data centre operations to Open Access Data Centres

Leading Web Host, xneelo, which hosts over 500,000 websites, has relocated its Cape Town-based servers to leading African data centre operator Open Access Data Centres’ (OADC) newest facility in Brackenfell. An entire floor of the facility was fitted out to meet its specific requirements for a secure, flexible colocation facility adhering to best practice data centre design and standards.

The relocation required the setup of over 100 custom racks at the OADC facility. OADC and xneelo collaborated on the data centre’s design, mainly focusing on cooling and power needs, considering xneelo’s bespoke rack architecture and efficient power usage strategy. The move took approximately 6 weeks, with 1,492 servers transported and set up in the new facility.

Pierre Celliers, Sales Manager for OADC South Africa, explains that OADC’s Brackenfell facility was chosen due to its flexibility and capacity for expansion. OADC’s ability to retrofit the top floor for xneelo’s exclusive use allows them to operate independently with full support from OADC’s client and technical teams. The space allocated to xneelo is designed to accommodate up to 180 racks in the future.

Celliers says, “OADC’s flexibility in meeting xneelo’s unique needs sets us apart. Through close collaboration with xneelo, we’ve developed and delivered a tailored solution while ensuring full operational support.”

With this move, xneelo’s customers can continue to experience world-class hosting with complete security, connectivity, and power redundancy. “OADC meets the high standards xneelo requires to serve their customers effectively,” Celliers adds.

“We needed a data centre operator that could meet our unique requirements, and OADC’s flexibility in design was essential for us,” says Deon de Villers, xneelo’s CEO. “As a mass-hosting provider, we required a location to accommodate our Cape Town-based infrastructure and provide room for growth. OADC’s Brackenfell facility met both needs, and they were able to fast-track their expansion to accommodate us,” adds de Villiers.

Xneelo is confident the move will maintain and enhance its service excellence. The relocation to OADC Brackenfell consolidates xneelo’s Cape Town hosting infrastructure, aligning it with the best practices and standards of its Gauteng Samrand data centre. This consolidation provides economies of scale, the capacity for further expansion, and fully redundant power feeds for customers hosted in Cape Town.
